Department of Geriatrics

The Department of Geriatrics is part of the Internal Medicine Division, with all clinical physicians having over 7 years of clinical experience and having completed rotations in various internal medicine specialties and emergency care. Currently, there is 1 chief physician, 2 associate chief physicians, and 6 attending physicians.

Drawing on international experience, the geriatrics team has implemented a comprehensive geriatric work model within the hospital, forming an interdisciplinary team that includes geriatricians, pharmacists, nutritionists, rehabilitation physicians, psychiatrists, nurses, and community healthcare workers. This team-based approach operates in both inpatient wards and specialized outpatient clinics, while also conducting general geriatric outpatient services, consultations, physical examinations, preventive care, and community services. The department was the first to implement Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA) in clinical practice, designing targeted standardized assessment content for different settings; it has also been a pioneer in applying modern geriatric concepts to clinical work and management, emphasizing the unique issues faced by elderly patients, particularly frailty, and developing individualized, holistic management plans that effectively reduce iatrogenic problems, achieving favorable outcomes and high patient satisfaction. It ranked 10th in the 2012 Best Specialty Reputation Rankings by the Fudan University Hospital Management Institute and 9th in 2013.
