The Department of Gastroenterology is one of the earliest established specialties at Peking Union Medical College Hospital, personally led and nurtured by the pioneers of modern internal medicine, Professor Zhang Xiaoqian and renowned gastroenterology expert Professor Chen Minzhang. Through the hard work of several generations, the department has developed into a key discipline with significant influence both domestically and internationally. The department boasts a complete range of subspecialties, a wealth of talent, and strong clinical and laboratory technical capabilities, serving as a high-level center for gastroenterology, endoscopy, and the treatment of complex critical conditions. It includes a high-level, nationwide center for the diagnosis and treatment of inflammatory bowel disease and pancreatic diseases, a gastrointestinal endoscopy training center, and a center for gastrointestinal function and motility disorders.
